Wey South Path                                  Home

Guildford to Amberley  58km/ 36 miles

This path is designed to connect the North Downs Way to The South Downs Way. In reality it is more about following the course of the now defunct Arun canal ( + a bit of the river Wey ) , which if it was still in place would give the last link to navigation from north to south in England.

Regrettably a lot of it is overgrown & covered with gardens & fields, but a group of enthusiasts, bless 'em,  have rebuilt bits of it and  occasionally you come across a stretch with working locks & boats. Anyone who can restore an aqueduct for a canal that doesn't currently go anywhere has got to have my vote. Sadly I don't think it will be completed in my life time.

Soon after the path leaves the Wey it follows an old railway track, never a great idea, long straight, boring & all views cut off by scrubby bushes. After this you enjoy a variety of Surrey & Sussex scenery. Nothing mind blowing, just pleasant.
