Stains to Thames Barrier

The Thames Path with Jim

The 2 day journey from Richmond to the Thames Barrier was one of my favourite walks, also where I discovered the joy's of urban walking. There might not be great sweeps of open countryside, but you can get a good cappuccino at the drop of a hat & when it gets dark lighting is provided.

To say it was the Thames Barrier is the end is incorrect from a total completion point of view, but we knocked it off January 2001 passing a deserted millennium dome.

5 years later we return & revisit the journey from Battersea to Greenwich, a lot has changed with Canary Warf expanding. The RN college has become a university & a quick trip to the Maritime  museum reveals a modern review of  endeavour at sea.

Whilst our walk was going on we had the cloud of smoke from the Hemel Hempstead oil storage depot fire going over us. Also Red Ken's palace was putting on a great display of pictures taken from the air, including two delightful pictures of a group of nudist bathers along side a group of basking seals....all good stuff. Anyway it was a great couple of days conversation and walking.

As the main journeys were completed within 7 days of mid winter we enjoyed some fantastic light for viewing the scenery.
