The Solent Way + a bit!                           Home

Milford on Sea to Worthing   170km/ 106 miles ( The true Solent Way stops at Emsworth)

This is a bit like the Thames Path, completed over a number of years with lots of the middle sections being repeated several times>>>> and all walked with Jim. Amarach Jim's fine Beneteau 30' was kept on The Hamble & now Port Solent, so inevitably we would walk from his  'ship' to various points on the coast.  We also extended the route past Emsworth to Worthing.

It is a journey of surprising variety, with the towns/ cities of Lymington, Southampton, Portsmouth, Gosport & Bognor providing there own varied charms. On a rainy day we included HMS Victory as part of our walk, which reinforced the importance of the sea to this region. On the Solent by Netley is a fine memorial in a black stone to all those who left for the D Day beaches from this area, along side a little plaque explaining the 1st World War hospital near the water sedge for men returning from the trenches.

Like all LDP it has a few high points & a few boring bits.... such is life. I fortunately had Jim's good company.
