The walk to Portsmouth Cathedral follows a boring converted railway
track on Hayling Island to the ferry on its SE tip, then along the
sea front. Before you get to the Cathedral you pass the
impressive war memorial and the Millennium tower, which the
ratepayers of Portsmouth must be delighted to fund.
The Cathedral is a thoughtfully converted parish church. It has been
re ordered with a lot of thought and is delightfully different
inside. The whole place is a great mixture of traditional and
modern. ......compared to Oxford, this is a breath of fresh
air.... The question of the need for a Cathedral between Chichester
and Winchester is another question. |
