| Ireland - Berra & a bit of
Kerry |
|
An outing with Jon, Jim, myself and for the first three days Robert. We were visiting The Berra peninsular & revisiting a few spots talked about in the excellent book 'MacCarthey's Bar' by the late Pete MacCarthey. We were told the town of Castletown was only a mile from the cottage we hired, they didn't say it was up a big hill ( believe me the last thing you want to do when you have been walking is go up and down hills) We had a walk on The Bear Island & took the famous cable car to Durnsey Island, which was just as described in Pete MacCarthey's book ...a health and safety nightmare. Jim had to hold the door sort of shut as we were suspended 200 feet above the waves. Because of the weather ( it was being very 'Irish' at times) we had a car drive around the Kerry Ring with a walk out to Bolus Head & a visit to a ruined priory. Different trip, questionable weather, good beer and company. |
