Estella to Los Arcos - 20Km

We left the hostel  at 7am, and found ourselves a bar that Helen had discovered the night before which was serving breakfast. The reason for the early opening was that it had never closed and we were greeted by the hardcore boozers that were drinking...with little enthusiasm... from the night before.

The next big event was the ultimate find for any 'wino'... two taps in a wall outside a vineyard. One offering water the other red wine. Yep, like everyone else we tasted the booze, but I can only get so excited about drinking wine from a tap at 8.30 in the morning. I think to get the full benefit you needed to be up all night with our early morning pals from the bar an hour earlier. (On my return I was in a restaurant offering a bottle from the same vineyard for £35, presumably not the same vintage as was on offer in Spain)

At the village of Villamayor de Monjardin, we were advised the Bocadilos were very good, so we ordered them with our coffee to have as lunch later. As our day was going ahead of plan we ate our scoff  by the side of a wheat field after leaving the vines behind.

We arrived at the Albergue by mid afternoon, a happy little place in the sun, dropped our kit  and headed for a beer. We were joined by Dara from Northern Ireland + Kate and Mike from Australia who were heading to Barcelona  the next day. A pleasant evening was had by all...we followed the beer with Mass at the church, which didn't happen and supper at the bar, which did.

Getting into the church was a big plus, Los Arcos is a small town, but the gold in the church was very impressive. Clearly someone had connections to early visitors to South America.
( I say no more, in case I offend)

The church really shone, Dalen also told me that when he was there there was a gang of women polishing and shining every single thing in the church, including one lady with a cloth under each foot shining the floor near the altar, and they seemed to be having a great time.
