Atapuerca to Burgos - 19Km  + Day off in Burgos

Renate and I left in the dark and witnessed a glorious sunrise...they do not get better than today... but they do, wait for Day 27. To misuse the football metaphor, it was a walk of two halves. The first being a sunrise the second through the commercial hinterland of Burgos. For this we were joined by Stephano who was fixated on getting a number 8 bus through the industrial area. The problem being  it was Sunday and the buses were 'off'.

I booked into a small hotel over the bus station. Oh the joys of having my own room for two nights. During the day I turned the thermostat up to full, opened the window and dried all my washing on the radiator...one of my daily problems solved?

The first afternoon, I washed everything in sight, then found an English newspaper had a beer and CCL + SB.... taking the odd photo on the way.

Just as well as I took a few photos on day one ...the second day it rained with an intensity that I have not seen for years.  I was lucky to be having a day off and not walking. I spent my time being frustrated by the Spanish shop / work hours. It's their country and their choice but they are at total odds with a 'grims way of life. The shops do not open until 10am, close at one, reopen at 5ish and close again about 8.... but all of this is flexible.

So between the extensive rain, I shopped for a top up for my Spanish mobile, a CD back up of my camera, a new paperback and newspaper. .... All these activities, plus hanging out, reading my paper drinking CCL+SB and beer kept me quietly occupied all day, and I did visit the Cathedral, which is big and impressive.

In the evening I had a meal with Olivia, Olaf who was between jobs and Ana a cheerful, interesting, clinical physiologist all from Germany we were later joined by Edmund from a happy Filipino who was always on the hunt for cooked rice.
