At the Gite I
am joined by a French couple Annie and Pierre. After sorting
ourselves out with showers and laundry I am joined by Annie
and then Pierre to sit outside in the warm evening sun. With Annie's English we are able to pool resources for food that evening. As
the farm is a duck farm mostly into Foie Gras, we end up with duck
soup + other bits.
Before dinner
we are given a tour of the ducks being fed for Foie Gras. I had been
reading my book on French culture ('60 Million
Frenchmen can't be wrong' an interesting and easy read) that very evening on the subject
of attachment to the land, so I understood their apparent interest
and I tagged along suspecting I wouldn't like what I saw.
The process is the ducks have 16 weeks to wander about and have fun,
then get 12 days in cages where they are forced fed. You can decide
for yourselves if you approve or not. |
