'Big Bruver Confiture'..This years Strawberry Jam

While some people eat to live, others, and here I might include my brother Ian, live to eat. It could be said that as brothers we have more than a passing interest in good food. Ian tends to be disappointed at the retail shops offerings for jams and marmalades and has entered the market to make sure there is a consistent high quality product available for himself and the discerning customer for 'loose set' confiture.

This year fresh strawberries were picked in the early morning mist at Netherton Fruit farm on the banks of the River Teign. After toiling in the fields we repaired to 'Coffee Rush' shop at Shaldon, for a quick cappuccino and S.B. to recover from 15 minutes of active fruit picking .Returning to the Lievesley Sr.'s household the team was split into groups...

  •    Mary toiled in the garden and gave long distance mentoring.

  •    Ian  provided local supervision.....and cooked.

  •    Joy volunteered to prepare the fruit.

  •    Andrew worked on the marketing plan & label design / production.

After a short snooze, afternoon tea and jam tasting session  we repaired to the English house restaurant in Torquay...  http://www.s-h-systems.co.uk/hotels/english.html   for a dinner to celebrate this year's vintage.

STOP PRESS
The January Marmalade has been released to the public. An early testing indicated this years vintage is a medium/light set on the sweet side of 'tart'. Because of short supply (being nicked at a fast rate by Ian's 'relies') the RRP is £59 to take into consideration inflation & the producers age.

Jam Jar labels are now becoming a collectors item.
