After seven hours
on the Interstate highway (the motorways are very boring in this
area, tress stop any view) we arrived in Savannah where it was hot &
humid, apparently the locals thought it was quite mild for the time
of year.
The city has lots of squares and trees. The highlights of the visit
was a conducted tour of the Synagogue that looked like a C of E
church, a refurbished Catholic Cathedral ($11m worth of
refurbishment), different coffee shops, an outlet shop for the local
art college and a trip around a house used by General Sherman in
the civil war.
After a long hard day looking around town we escaped to Tybee island
for a swim, as promised the water was warm. It sure beat the
temperature of the sea at Filey (On the other hand anywhere outside
the artic circle is warmer than Filey). As we left the beach a storm
appeared on the horizon, but it was still very warm. |
