Sometimes life looks so peaceful, then it degenerates into a farce without any help from anyone. This is a story of such an occasion. The background is this.... After a hard day being a tourist in Charleston and Patriots point we decide to escape to the beach for an hour to read our books and relax for a small time.

It didn't take us long to realise the bloke in front of us was one of those types that feeds seagulls, you may think this is a little strange because when did you last see a hungry sea gull?.....however we all have to have a mission in life and feeding seagulls was this lad's. He was finishing off the job in hand and soon left the beach, only to return with an extra bag of goodies which he promptly scattered as a last parting shot for the seagulls' dietary needs . Surprisingly the seagulls ignored these goodies, which turned out to be marshmallows. Now we all know they have some interesting tastes in food on this side of the Atlantic, but I thought seagulls eating marshmallows was stretching it a bit.

As he departed a woman came & set up a pergola sort of arrangement with white ribbons attached, yep we were able to watch a wedding service which lasted all of 10minutes, followed by 30 minutes of picture taking. The service had everything, guests coming and going, drama of a young man in tears (not the bride groom) not to mention seagulls dive-bombing the last remains of the non marshmallow grub.

As they were well into the wedding photos two separate professional photographers turned up with model dogs in tow & started taking pictures. This is obviously a money making place for photographers & giant poodle owners. Undeterred by all this activity a couple arrived in their catamaran & started dismantling it, ready to tow home, but one of the photographers got in on the act and borrowed it leaving the sailors standing around like spare parts at a wedding, which they weren't as that had finished a few moments before when all the guests bride, groom etc., had dived into their SUV's & departed to the reception.

As all the remaining players left and went home a big container ship passed close to the shore, at this point the only other occupant left on the beach, a woman reading on a sun bed got up, dressed & left, having ignored all the activities so far. I don't know what she was reading but it must have been good.... 'cos I read absolutely zipo. It was far too exciting just watching everything going on around me.I can tell you it was never this exciting at Filey when I was a lad.

As the sun sank slowly in the west a squadron of pelicans flew overhead and we departed, exhausted, to a local fish restaurant for a super meal. Just to make sure we were not bored, we were able to watch two people expertly gut fish for the amateur fishermen returning in their boats while eating our supper.>>>> You have to say it was a busy day at the office.
