We planned a leisurely drive between Savannah & Charleston and headed to Hilton Head Island. The helpful girl in the tourist office quickly found our needs & said we should go & see the holiday town at the end of the island, but said for a swim she suggested a place away from the shops etc. She was right, the tip of the island was an upmarket sanitised plastic affair, the beach she suggested was very good, hot, sunny, warm water ( OK you couldn't stand up in it...but who cares, it was warm and not Filey)
