The 15 acres of land that formed the Duke Homestead near Durham was the home of the original founder of what was to become one of the largest Tobacco companies in the world. The key to success in this case (and I suspect in many others) was a son with a good business brain who understood the need to automate. From this delightful small museum you learn two things about the tobacco crop, it requires a lot of hard work to produce and is very prone to disease.
